Detection of Lettuce Discoloration Using Hyperspectral Reflectance Imaging

چکیده
Rapid visible/near-infrared (VNIR) hyperspectral imaging methods, employing both a single waveband algorithm and multi-spectral algorithms, were developed in order to discrimination between sound and discolored lettuce. Reflectance spectra for sound and discolored lettuce surfaces were extracted from hyperspectral reflectance images obtained in the 400-1000 nm wavelength range. The optimal wavebands for discriminating between discolored and sound lettuce surfaces were determined using one-way analysis of variance. Multi-spectral imaging algorithms developed using ratio and subtraction functions resulted in enhanced classification accuracy of above 99.9% for discolored and sound areas on both adaxial and abaxial lettuce surfaces. Ratio imaging (RI) and subtraction imaging (SI) algorithms at wavelengths of 552/701 nm and 557-701 nm, respectively, exhibited better classification performances compared to results obtained for all possible two-waveband combinations. These results suggest that hyperspectral reflectance imaging techniques can potentially be used to discriminate between discolored and sound fresh-cut lettuce.

Improving the RX Anomaly Detection Algorithm for Hyperspectral Images using FFT
Anomaly Detection (AD) has recently become an important application of target detection in hyperspectral images. The Reed-Xialoi (RX) is the most widely used AD algorithm that suffers from “small sample size” problem. The best solution for this problem is to use Dimensionality Reduction (DR) techniques as a pre-processing step for RX detector. Using this method not only improves the detection p...
متن کاملPredicting of the Quality Attributes of Orange Fruit Using Hyperspectral Images
Background: Hyperspectral image analysis is a fast and non-destructive technique that is being used to measure quality attributes of food products. This research investigated the feasibility of predicting internal quality attributes, such as Total Soluble Solids (TSS), pH, Titratable Acidity (TA), and maturity index (TSS/TA); and external quality attributes such as color components (L*, a*, b*)...
متن کاملA Infrared hyperspectral imaging technique for non-invasive cancer detection
Hyperspectral imaging(HI) is an emerging technology in the field of biomedical engineering which may be used as a non-invasive modality for cancer characterization. In this project, we propose to investigate hyperspectral imaging for the characterization of gastric cancer. The hyperspectral imaging has been used for the detection of various kinds of human cancer; breast, gastric, prostate and t...
متن کاملDetection of Cracks on Tomatoes Using a Hyperspectral Near-Infrared Reflectance Imaging System
The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of hyperspectral near-infrared (NIR) reflectance imaging techniques for detecting cuticle cracks on tomatoes. A hyperspectral NIR reflectance imaging system that analyzed the spectral region of 1000-1700 nm was used to obtain hyperspectral reflectance images of 224 tomatoes: 112 with and 112 without cracks along the stem-scar region. The hyper...
متن کاملPrediction of polyphenol oxidase activity using visible near-infrared hyperspectral imaging on mushroom (Agaricus bisporus) caps.
Physical stress (i.e., bruising) during harvesting, handling, and transportation triggers enzymatic discoloration of mushrooms, a common and detrimental phenomenon largely mediated by polyphenol oxidase (PPO) enzymes. Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) is a nondestructive technique that combines imaging and spectroscopy to obtain information from a sample. The objective of this study was to assess the...
